Bright Data Review: Is the Proxy Platform Worth It?
Buy Bright Data if you need proxy or unlocker infrastructure — residential, ISP, or datacenter IPs, billed in GB or per IP — and you can complete the documented KYC step before Residential or Mobile use. Skip it if the job is a hosted LLM context API (Firecrawl), a scrape API (ScraperAPI, ZenRows, ScrapingBee), or an actor platform (Apify).
- Residential proxies, official pricing page checked November 6, 2026: pay-as-you-go listed at $8/GB, shown at $4.00/GB with coupon RESIGB50 and no monthly commitment. Committed rows: $499/month for 141 GB ($7 list / $3.50 offer), $999 for 332 GB ($6 / $3.00), $1,999 for 798 GB ($5 / $2.50). Cite both the list rate and the named 50% offer; offers move.
- KYC: official FAQ on that page says a compliance process applies before Residential or Mobile. The same FAQ says Web Unlocker does not require that KYC path.
- The full GB calculator lives on Bright Data pricing.

1. Who Bright Data is for — and who should skip it
This review answers whether a proxy and web-data infrastructure platform is worth buying. It is not the GB calculator and it is not the Oxylabs duel.
Buy it when…
- You need rotating residential IPs, ISP (static residential) IPs, or datacenter IPs, with country/city (and, for residential, zip and ASN) targeting listed as free on the proxy-network page.
- You want a vendor that also sells adjacent products (Unlocker, SERP, Browser, scraper APIs) under the same account — even if this review prices the proxy networks we could verify in dollars today.
- You can wait for KYC before Residential or Mobile, or you can start on Web Unlocker, which the official FAQ says does not require that process.
Skip it when…
- You wanted Markdown-for-agents — Firecrawl review.
- You wanted a scrape API with credit packs — ScraperAPI review or ZenRows review.
- You wanted store actors — Apify review.
- You wanted a single shared credit subscription across search, scrape, and proxies — that billing shape is the Oxylabs side of Bright Data vs Oxylabs.
UA did not create a Bright Data account or pass KYC. Figures come from the official proxy-network pricing page and its on-page FAQ, plus the public pricing-hub navigation, checked November 6, 2026. There is no affiliate button on this page.
2. What you are actually buying
Bright Data’s official pricing hub is a catalog: proxy networks, Web Unlocker, SERP API, Browser API, scraper APIs, datasets, and more. The dollar table we could fetch in full is the proxy-network grid (residential / ISP / datacenter). Other products appear in the same site’s pricing navigation with starting prices (Unlocker API: free tier, from $1 per 1,000 requests; SERP API: free tier, from $1 per 1,000 requests; Browser API: from $5/GB; Crawl API: from $1 per 1,000 requests). We cite those navigation figures as starting points, not as complete plan tables we did not open.
Official FAQ, same proxy-network page:
- PAYG exists for proxies and also for Web Unlocker, self-service Web Scraper IDE, Web Scraper APIs, and SERP API.
- Four IP types: datacenter, ISP (static residential), rotating residential, and mobile.
- KYC before Residential or Mobile; Web Unlocker “does not require going through the KYC process.”
- Bandwidth = request headers + request data + response headers + response data. Trial traffic is listed on the dashboard but not billed.
- Billing cycle starts on the 1st of each month (UTC+0 in related docs). Unused monthly commitment does not roll over if the account stays active all month.
- At 85% of balance, an email asks you to add funds; at 100%, the account suspends unless funds are added. Auto-recharge is documented as optional.
3. Pricing snapshot
Residential rows from the official proxy-network page, November 6, 2026. The page displayed a 50% offer with coupon RESIGB50. We print list and offer together.
| Commitment | Included | List / GB | Offer / GB (RESIGB50) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay-as-you-go, no monthly commitment | — | $8 | $4.00 |
| $499 / month | 141 GB | $7 | $3.50 |
| $999 / month | 332 GB | $6 | $3.00 |
| $1,999 / month | 798 GB | $5 | $2.50 |
| Above ~1 TB | Custom | Custom | Custom |
The same page advertises matching a first deposit dollar-for-dollar, up to $500. ISP (from the same page): 10 IPs at $1.80/IP ($18/month), 100 at $1.45 ($145), 500 at $1.40 ($700), 1,000 at $1.30 ($1,300). Datacenter: 10 IPs at $1.40 ($14), 100 at $1.00 ($100), 500 at $0.95 ($475), 1,000 at $0.90 ($900). Full GB scenarios and the mid-month proration example live on Bright Data pricing.
Twenty GB of residential traffic at the published PAYG list rate is $160; at the named $4.00 offer it is $80. The $499 committed row includes 141 GB at the offer rate — far more than a 20 GB month — so PAYG is the better published fit until volume justifies the commitment. That is a plan question, not a reason this review becomes a spreadsheet.
4. Technical workflow (as documented)
- Create an account and decide whether you need Residential/Mobile (KYC) or can start on Web Unlocker or datacenter/ISP products.
- Complete KYC if you need Residential or Mobile. Official wording: a representative may ask for a short intro video call and verification of company or personal information. Budget that as time-to-first-byte, not as a footnote.
- Pick a network type that matches the target. The FAQ’s own guidance: datacenter for less sophisticated sites; ISP when you need a stable residential identity; rotating residential to emulate a real user; mobile for highly sophisticated or mobile-specific collection. For scraping, the same FAQ points at Web Unlocker (handles CAPTCHA, headers, retries) rather than raw proxies alone.
- Watch bandwidth, not “pages.” Headers on the way in and out count. A chatty JSON API and a media-heavy page are not the same GB.
- Set a daily usage cap if you need one (the FAQ describes per-zone limits in bandwidth or dollars, recalculated about every 15 minutes).
- Turn on auto-recharge if an overnight suspend at 100% of balance is unacceptable.
5. Pitfalls
- Treating the $4.00/GB offer as the permanent list price. The page still prints $8/GB PAYG and names the coupon.
- Expecting unused monthly commitment to roll over while the account stays active — official FAQ says it does not.
- Skipping KYC in the project plan, then discovering Residential is blocked.
- Budgeting “pages” instead of GB (headers included).
- Buying a $499 / 141 GB row for a 15 GB month “just in case” — PAYG exists for a reason.
- Buying Bright Data because you needed a Markdown API or a scrape-credit pack.
6. Decision
| If your situation is… | Decision |
|---|---|
| You need proxy/unlocker infrastructure and can handle KYC (or start on Unlocker) | Bright Data is worth evaluating. Start on PAYG unless GB volume clearly fills a committed row. |
| You wanted a shared credit subscription across search/scrape/proxies | Compare Oxylabs on the vs page. |
| You wanted Markdown, a scrape API, or actors | Wrong category — open those reviews instead. |
| You already know the platform fits and need the bill | Bright Data pricing |
Our verdict: Bright Data is worth it for teams whose actual job is buying reputable proxy or unlocker infrastructure at published GB or per-IP rates. It is not a scrape-API substitute and not an LLM context API. We have no affiliate link to offer today.
7. FAQ
Is Bright Data worth it?
Yes, if you need proxy or unlocker infrastructure and the GB (or per-IP) math fits. No, if you wanted a crawl API for Markdown or a scrape-credit pack. Official residential PAYG is $8/GB list, $4.00/GB with the named RESIGB50 offer, checked November 6, 2026.
Does Bright Data require KYC?
For Residential or Mobile, yes, according to the official proxy-network FAQ. That FAQ says Web Unlocker does not require KYC.
Do unused funds roll over?
If the account stays active all month, the monthly commitment does not roll over, regardless of unused usage. The FAQ describes a different treatment when the account was inactive part of the month.
How is bandwidth measured?
Request headers + request body + response headers + response body. Trial traffic is not billed.
Do you earn a commission?
