Direct answer

Pick Bright Data when you want to buy a specific network (residential GB, ISP IPs, datacenter IPs) at published per-product rates, including a no-commitment residential PAYG row. Pick Oxylabs when you want one monthly subscription whose credits span search, scrape, proxies, Web Unblocker, and Agent Browser.

  • Bright Data residential, official page checked November 6, 2026: PAYG $8/GB list, $4.00/GB with coupon RESIGB50; committed $499 / 141 GB, $999 / 332 GB, $1,999 / 798 GB.
  • Oxylabs, official page checked November 6, 2026: Welcome credit $5; Starter $15/month, Basic $100, Flexible $500, Enterprise from $2,500 (VAT may apply). Residential $6/GB on the welcome and Starter columns, then $5, $4, and $2.5/GB as plans rise. Unused credits expire at cycle end except on upgrade.

1. Who should pick which

This is a pairwise decision between two infrastructure vendors with different bills. It is not a scrape-API comparison and not a Bright Data review in disguise.

Choose Bright Data when…

  • You want to pay for one network at a time (residential GB, or a counted block of ISP/datacenter IPs).
  • You want a documented no-commitment residential PAYG row.
  • You can complete KYC before Residential or Mobile, or you will start on Web Unlocker (their FAQ: no KYC on that path).

Choose Oxylabs when…

  • You want one credit balance that can fund /Search, /Scrape, residential or other proxies, Web Unblocker, and Agent Browser without a separate product subscription.
  • A $15 Starter (or $100 Basic) subscription matches the amount of credit you will actually draw at the published per-product rates.
  • You are comfortable that unused credits expire at cycle end (except on upgrade).

UA did not create accounts at either vendor. Prices come from Bright Data’s official proxy-network page and FAQ, and from Oxylabs’ official pricing page and credit-billing docs, checked November 6, 2026.

2. What you are actually buying

QuestionBright DataOxylabs
Billing shapePer product: residential $/GB (PAYG or a committed row), ISP and datacenter $/IP.One subscription funds a shared credit balance. Each product draws at its own rate.
Residential entryPAYG $8/GB list, $4.00/GB with named coupon RESIGB50, no commitment.Starter $15/month at $6/GB, up to 2 GB on that column. Welcome credit $5 (about 0.8 GB at $6/GB).
Next published steps$499 / 141 GB; $999 / 332 GB; $1,999 / 798 GB (list $7 / $6 / $5 per GB, offer $3.50 / $3.00 / $2.50).Basic $100 at $5/GB (up to 20 GB); Flexible $500 at $4/GB (up to 125 GB); Enterprise from $2,500 at $2.5/GB (1K+ GB).
Unused balanceMonthly commitment does not roll over if the account stays active all month.Unused credits expire at cycle end, except when you upgrade (then unused balance carries).
Empty / low balanceEmail at 85%; suspend at 100% unless funds are added. Auto-recharge optional. PAYG is not auto-recharged.Top up (expires end of cycle unless you also upgrade) or upgrade (immediate, unused balance carries).
Web unlocker analogUnlocker API: pricing-hub navigation lists a free tier, from $1 / 1,000 requests. FAQ: no KYC.Web Unblocker: $7.2/GB on the welcome and Starter columns, then $6, $4.8, and $3/GB as plans rise.

Oxylabs also publishes /Search at $1 per 1,000 searches across the public columns, and /Scrape from $0.50 per 1,000 results (lower at higher plans). Those lines matter if the reason you opened this page is “one vendor for SERP plus proxies.” They do not matter if you only need residential GB.

3. Real cost by scenario

Same named GB, two official rate cards. Bright Data figures show list and the named RESIGB50 offer. Oxylabs figures use the residential rate on the plan that can hold that GB.

Scenario A — 1.5 GB residential (prototype)

Bright Data PAYG: 1.5 × $8 = $12 list, or 1.5 × $4.00 = $6 offer, no commitment. Oxylabs: 1.5 GB at $6/GB = $9 of credit, which fits Starter’s published 2 GB column at $15/month (and would also fit the $5 welcome credit only up to ~0.8 GB). Starter’s $15 is the monthly fee whether you use 0.5 GB or 2 GB; unused credit expires.

Scenario B — 8 GB residential

Bright Data PAYG: $64 list / $32 offer. Oxylabs Starter’s 2 GB column cannot hold 8 GB. Basic lists $5/GB up to 20 GB on a $100/month plan — 8 × $5 = $40 of credit drawn from that $100. You still pay $100, and $60 of unused credit expires at cycle end unless you upgrade. On this volume, Bright Data PAYG at the displayed $4.00 offer ($32) is cheaper than Oxylabs Basic ($100); at the $8 list rate ($64) it is still cheaper than $100. If the RESIGB50 offer is gone, $64 versus $100 remains a Bright Data PAYG win on price alone — before you weigh billing shape or KYC.

Scenario C — 20 GB residential

Bright Data PAYG: $160 list / $80 offer, still below the $499 committed row. Oxylabs Basic: 20 × $5 = $100, which is exactly Basic’s published 20 GB column on a $100 plan — no leftover credit if you use the full 20 GB. At the $4.00 offer, Bright Data PAYG ($80) undercuts Basic; at the $8 list rate ($160), Basic ($100) wins. This is the volume where the coupon, not the brand, decides the cheaper invoice.

Scenario D — 125 GB residential

Bright Data: 125 GB is still under the $499 / 141 GB inclusion. Committed row $499 (offer $3.50/GB). PAYG would be 125 × $8 = $1,000 list or 125 × $4.00 = $500 offer — roughly tied with $499 on the offer, far worse on the list. Oxylabs Flexible is $500/month at $4/GB up to 125 GB: 125 × $4 = $500, an exact fit. At 125 GB the published committed prices sit next to each other ($499 vs $500). Choose on billing shape (single-product GB row versus shared credits you might also spend on /Search or Unblocker), not on a one-dollar gap.

Scenario E — Proxies plus search

If the same team also needs search queries, Oxylabs /Search is $1 per 1,000 searches on the public columns — drawn from the same subscription. Bright Data’s pricing-hub navigation lists SERP API from $1 per 1,000 requests with a free tier; that is a separate product starting price, not a draw against the residential GB row. A mixed “proxies + SERP” job can favor Oxylabs’ shared balance even when residential-only math favored Bright Data PAYG.

4. How billing behaves

Bright Data: pick a network, pick PAYG or a commitment, measure GB (headers included) or IPs. KYC before Residential/Mobile. Mid-month joins are prorated (their FAQ’s $500-on-the-25th example). Adding funds after 85/100% is how you continue; we did not see a public per-GB overage sticker on committed rows.

Oxylabs: pick a subscription, spend credits at each product’s rate. Top-ups expire at cycle end unless you also upgrade; upgrades take effect immediately and unused balance carries into the new cycle; downgrades wait for the next billing date and unused balance does not carry. VAT may apply on top of the listed fees.

5. Pitfalls

  • Comparing Bright Data’s $4.00 offer to Oxylabs’ $6 Starter rate without saying the offer is coupon-named and the Starter column only holds about 2 GB.
  • Buying Oxylabs Starter ($15) for an 8 GB month — the published column does not hold it; Basic ($100) is the first residential fit.
  • Buying Bright Data’s $499 row for an 8 GB month.
  • Ignoring unused-credit expiry on Oxylabs (a $100 plan that draws $40 still costs $100).
  • Ignoring Bright Data KYC time if Residential is the product you came for.
  • Declaring a winner on residential GB alone when the real job also includes search or unblocker traffic.

6. Decision

If your situation is…Pick
Residential GB only, volume well under 141 GB, you want PAYGBright Data PAYG (quote $8 list and $4.00 offer)
About 141 GB residential as a steady commitmentBright Data $499 row, or re-read Scenario D if you also need other products
One balance for search, scrape, proxies, and unblockerOxylabs subscription that holds the GB and request mix
~20 GB residential and no other Oxylabs productsRun Scenario C with and without the Bright Data coupon before you decide
You actually wanted a scrape API or Markdown APIWrong pairwise page

There is no universal cheaper logo. At low PAYG volume Bright Data often wins on a residential-only invoice, especially while RESIGB50 applies. At mixed search-plus-proxy workloads, Oxylabs’ shared balance is the product. At ~125 GB the committed prices we fetched sit side by side.

7. FAQ

Is Bright Data cheaper than Oxylabs?

It depends on GB and on whether the Bright Data coupon still applies. See scenarios A–D. Do not compare $15 to $4/GB as if they were the same unit.

Does Oxylabs unused credit roll over?

Official billing docs: unused credit expires at cycle end, except when you upgrade (unused balance carries). Top-ups expire at cycle end unless you also upgrade.

Does Bright Data unused commitment roll over?

Not if the account stays active all month, per their proxy-network FAQ.
