ZenRows Alternatives: When to Switch

Direct answer

Stay on ZenRows when you want one weighted credit wallet for standard, JS, premium-proxy, and protected fetches. Switch when the constraint is different: hosted Markdown for agents (Firecrawl), a classic scrape API with SERP multipliers (ScraperAPI), a thin scrape API (ScrapingBee), an actor store (Apify), or proxy/unlocker infrastructure (Bright Data or Oxylabs).

  • Stay, official ZenRows prices checked November 6, 2026: Free $0 / 5,000 credits; Build monthly from $19 / 45,000 credits (annual display from $16); protected requests cost 25 credits.
  • Switch by job, not by sticker. Firecrawl Hobby $19, ZenRows Build $19, ScrapingBee Hobby $19, and Apify Starter $19 are four units.
  • Pairwise deep-dive already published: Firecrawl vs ZenRows. This page is the landscape.

1. When to stay — and when a different door is the right one

People who search “ZenRows alternatives” usually already know the toolkit exists. They want a leave path that matches a constraint the weighted credit wallet does not cover, or confirmation that they should stay. This page does that job. It does not replace the ZenRows review or ZenRows pricing.

Stay when…

  • You collect HTML or rendered HTML and like one balance across 1 / 5 / 10 / 25-credit modes.
  • You care that failed requests are not charged.
  • Adaptive Stealth, Extract-on-Fetch (currently free), or Browser minutes are part of the reason you bought in.

Leave when…

  • You need Markdown or JSON for agents from a hosted context API.
  • You want scrape-API packs with published Google/Bing/LinkedIn multipliers and JS included in the plan fee.
  • You need actors, or you wanted to buy residential GB as infrastructure rather than as a credit weight.

UA did not create test accounts. Prices below come from each vendor’s official pricing materials, checked November 6, 2026. ZenRows itself has no affiliate button here. Firecrawl links are affiliate links because that program is validated. Other vendors have hidden placeholders only.

3. Staying on ZenRows

Stay if the constraint that sent you here is still “I want one toolkit wallet.” Official entry: Free 5,000 credits; Build B1 $19/month (45,000 credits) or $16 annual display. The reasons people incorrectly leave are usually billing misunderstandings: they forced every URL through the 25-credit protected path, they quoted the $16 annual display as a monthly invoice, or they treated 404s as free. Recalculate on the pricing page before you migrate.

The reasons people correctly leave are category mismatches, listed next. If the frustration is Free’s missing top-up or Build’s concurrency, that is an upgrade inside ZenRows, documented on the pricing page — not evidence that a proxy network is a better product.

4. The main leave paths

Firecrawl — when the job is LLM context

Official hosted plans checked November 6, 2026: Free $0 / 1,000 credits; Hobby $19 or $16 annual display / 5,000; Standard $99 or $83 / 100,000. Basic scrape is 1 credit; JSON scrape is 5. If your next hop is a prompt, a chunker, or MCP, this is the leave path — not a “cheaper ZenRows.” Details: Firecrawl vs ZenRows and the Firecrawl review.

ScraperAPI — when you want scrape-API packs and SERP multipliers

Official pricing: 7-day trial 5,000 credits no card; free plan 1,000 / 5 threads; Hobby $49 ($44.10 annual) / 100,000 credits / 20 threads / US & EU; Startup $149 / 1,000,000 / 50; Business $299 / 3,000,000 / 100 / global. Standard page 1 credit; Amazon 5; Google and Bing 25; LinkedIn 30; Cloudflare/Datadome/PerimeterX +10. JS rendering and premium proxies are included on all plans, so you do not pay a 5× or 25× toolkit weight for those modes — you pay a higher entry sticker and, for Google, a 25× page weight instead. Credits do not roll over. 7-day no-questions refund. See ScraperAPI review and Firecrawl vs ScraperAPI.

ScrapingBee — thin hosted scrape API

Official pricing: Hobby $19 / 75,000 credits / 25 concurrent; Freelance $49 / 250,000 / 50; Startup $99 / 1,000,000 / 100; Business $249 / 3,000,000 / 200; Business+ $599 / 8,000,000 / 400. Requests start at 1 credit; JS rendering 5; premium proxies 10 or 25 depending on JS. Credits last one month and do not roll over. Another HTML-first peer, closer to ScraperAPI’s category than to Firecrawl’s. See ScrapingBee review.

Apify — actors and a store

Official pricing: Free $0 / $5 included usage; Starter $19 ($17 annual) / $19 included; Scale $199 / $199 included; Business $999 / $999 included. Unused usage expires. Compute units at $0.20 on Free/Starter. Most store actors are pay-per-event. Leave here if you needed custom jobs or a marketplace, not another fetch API. See Apify review.

Bright Data or Oxylabs — when you wanted infrastructure

Bright Data official proxy-network pricing (November 6, 2026): residential PAYG listed at $8/GB, shown at $4.00/GB with coupon RESIGB50 and no monthly commitment; committed rows at $499 / 141 GB ($7 list / $3.50 offer), $999 / 332 GB ($6 / $3.00), $1,999 / 798 GB ($5 / $2.50). KYC before Residential or Mobile; Web Unlocker described as not requiring that path. Unused monthly commitment does not roll over if the account stays active all month.

Oxylabs official pricing: one shared credit subscription. Welcome $5. Starter $15/month, Basic $100, Flexible $500, Enterprise from $2,500. Residential $6/GB on the lower columns, then $5, $4, and $2.5/GB as plans rise. Unused credits expire at cycle end except on upgrade. Pairwise: Bright Data vs Oxylabs.

Crawl4AI — when the crawler must be yours

Apache-2.0 self-host with pip install -U crawl4ai and crawl4ai-setup. Cloud (soft launch): Free 1,000 credits; Starter $10 / 10,000. A Firecrawl credit is not a Crawl4AI credit. Details: Firecrawl vs Crawl4AI.

The same 10,000 pages, five different meters

Use this only as a compass. It is not a bake-off.

  • ZenRows standard: 10,000 credits → Build B1 at $19. JS: 50,000 credits → still B1 (45,000)? No — 50,000 overflows B1 and needs B2 at $29 (80,000). Protected: 250,000 credits → Launch L1 at $69 exactly, with no headroom.
  • Firecrawl Markdown: 10,000 credits → Standard at $99 (Hobby holds only 5,000). JSON: 50,000 credits, still Standard. You also get the context-API product, which is the point of leaving — not the $99 itself.
  • ScraperAPI generic HTML: 10,000 credits fit Hobby at $49. Google at 25×: 250,000 credits fit Startup at $149 (1,000,000). JS does not add a ZenRows-style 5× on top; it is included.
  • ScrapingBee standard: 10,000 credits sit inside Hobby’s 75,000 at $19. JS at 5×: 50,000 credits, still Hobby. Premium+JS at 25×: 250,000 credits, which is Freelance’s entire 250,000 at $49 — no spare room.
  • Apify: no honest flat number. Starter is $19 of usage. The vendor’s Instagram example at $2.30 / 1,000 results would price 10,000 results at $23, already into overage.

The compass does not say ZenRows “wins” at $19 — that $19 only holds if the 10,000 pages stay at 1 credit. Protected, ZenRows is a $69 Launch story and ScraperAPI generic HTML is still $49, unless those pages were Google (then ScraperAPI is $149). Switching without naming the URL class is how teams pay twice.

5. Pitfalls when you switch

  • Comparing $19 stickers across Firecrawl, ZenRows, ScrapingBee, and Apify.
  • Leaving because protected mode felt expensive, then paying a scrape API plus your own stealth stack — or the reverse, buying residential GB when you only needed 1-credit HTML.
  • Moving to Firecrawl for raw HTML to “save money,” or moving to a proxy network because ZenRows Free would not top up.
  • Assuming another vendor’s failed requests are free just because ZenRows documents that rule.
  • Treating Bright Data’s promotional $4/GB as a permanent list price (the page still prints $8/GB PAYG and names RESIGB50).

A switch rewrites request code, logging, and retry policy. Do it when the job changed, not when a single month overflowed Build B1 — that is an upgrade. If two teams need two categories (Markdown and HTML), two vendors can be the honest answer.

6. Decision

If this is the constraint…Do this
Weighted toolkit still matches the jobStay on ZenRows. Recalculate the plan before you migrate.
You need hosted LLM contextEvaluate Firecrawl.
You need scrape-API packs / SERP multipliersEvaluate ScraperAPI or ScrapingBee.
You need actorsEvaluate Apify.
You need proxies / an unlockerEvaluate Bright Data or Oxylabs.
The crawler cannot leave your networkEvaluate Crawl4AI self-host.

Our recommendation if you landed here from a ZenRows page: do not switch by default. Switch when the job changed. If the job did not change, the cheaper-looking row elsewhere is probably measuring a different unit.

7. FAQ

What is the best ZenRows alternative?

There is not one. Firecrawl is the alternative when you need LLM context. ScraperAPI or ScrapingBee when you want a scrape API. Apify when you want a platform. Bright Data or Oxylabs when you want infrastructure. Crawl4AI when you must self-host.

Is Firecrawl cheaper than ZenRows?

Not as a rule. See Firecrawl vs ZenRows — JSON is 5 Firecrawl credits; a protected ZenRows request is 25 credits; the products are not the same.

Should I leave if protected mode emptied Build B1?

Usually no. That is a plan-row problem (B3 or Launch), documented on the pricing page. Leave if you never wanted a weighted toolkit.

Do you earn a commission on these alternatives?

Firecrawl links on this page may earn a commission. Other tools have no live affiliate button; hidden placeholders sit in the HTML for later.

Is ScrapingBee just a cheaper ZenRows?

No. ScrapingBee Hobby is $19 for 75,000 credits (JS 5; premium 10 or 25 depending on JS; 25 concurrent). ZenRows Build B1 is $19 for 45,000 credits on a 1/5/10/25 schedule, plus Browser minutes and residential-as-credits. Same sticker, different wallets.

Should I look at Decodo or IPRoyal here?

We are not quoting them on this page because we did not revalidate official prices for those vendors in this run. If they become a documented leave path later, they will get their own figures and their own internal URLs. Until then we will not invent a row. A missing price is better than a guessed one, especially on a page whose job is to stop bad switches.

Did UA test these tools?

No. Official pages checked November 6, 2026.
