ScraperAPI Alternatives: When to Switch

Direct answer

Stay on ScraperAPI when you want a classic scrape API with JS and premium proxies included, and you can budget the published hostname weights (Google/Bing 25, LinkedIn 30, Amazon 5). Switch when the job is different: hosted Markdown for agents (Firecrawl), a weighted toolkit (ZenRows), a thin scrape API (ScrapingBee), actors (Apify), or proxy/unlocker infrastructure (Bright Data or Oxylabs).

  • Stay, official prices checked November 6, 2026: trial 5,000 credits; Hobby $49/month ($44.10 annual) / 100,000 credits / 20 threads / US & EU; Startup $149 / 1,000,000; Business $299 / 3,000,000 / global.
  • Switch by job, not by sticker. Hobby $49 for 100,000 ScraperAPI credits is not Firecrawl Hobby $19 for 5,000 credits, and not ZenRows Build $19 for 45,000 weighted credits.
  • Pairwise already published: Firecrawl vs ScraperAPI.

1. When to stay — and when to leave

This page is the landscape after you already know what ScraperAPI is. It does not replace the review or pricing calculator.

Stay when…

  • You collect HTML or rendered HTML and will parse it yourself.
  • You can live with hostname weights (especially Google 25 and LinkedIn 30) in exchange for JS and premium proxies being included.
  • US/EU geotargeting is enough on Hobby/Startup, or you are willing to pay Business for global.

Leave when…

  • The next hop is Markdown or JSON for an agent — that is Firecrawl.
  • You want one wallet that charges 1 / 5 / 10 / 25 by render/proxy mode, not by hostname.
  • You need store actors, or you wanted to buy residential GB as infrastructure.

UA did not create test accounts. Prices below come from each vendor’s official pricing materials, checked November 6, 2026. Firecrawl links are affiliate links. ScraperAPI and the other vendors have no live button here.

3. Staying on ScraperAPI

Stay if the job is still “fetch these pages as HTML.” Official paid entry is Hobby at $49 ($44.10 annual) for 100,000 credits. The usual false alarms are a Google-heavy month emptying Hobby (that is Startup, not a new vendor) and needing geotargeting outside US/EU (that is Business at $299). Recalculate on the pricing page before you migrate.

4. The main leave paths

Firecrawl — LLM context

Official hosted plans: Free $0 / 1,000 credits; Hobby $19 or $16 annual display / 5,000; Standard $99 or $83 / 100,000. A JSON scrape is 5 credits. Leave here if the output contract changed to Markdown or structured fields for an agent — not to “save money” on HTML. Details: Firecrawl vs ScraperAPI.

ZenRows — weighted toolkit

Free $0 / 5,000 credits; Build monthly from $19 / 45,000 credits (annual display from $16). Weights: standard 1, JS 5, premium 10, protected 25. Failed requests are not charged; 404/410 bill as usable. Leave here if you want mode-based weights rather than hostname weights, or Adaptive Stealth. See Firecrawl vs ZenRows if LLM context is also in play, and the ZenRows review for fit.

ScrapingBee — thin scrape API

Hobby $19 / 75,000 credits / 25 concurrent; Freelance $49 / 250,000 / 50; Startup $99 / 1,000,000 / 100. Requests start at 1 credit; JS rendering 5; premium proxies 10 or 25 depending on JS. Closer to ScraperAPI’s category than to Firecrawl’s, with a different entry sticker and no published Google=25 rule on the pricing page we fetched. See ScrapingBee review.

Apify — actors

Free $0 / $5 included usage; Starter $19 ($17 annual) / $19 included. Unused usage expires. Most store actors are pay-per-event; compute units are $0.20 on Free/Starter. Leave here for custom jobs or a marketplace. See Apify review.

Bright Data or Oxylabs — infrastructure

Bright Data residential (official proxy-network page, November 6, 2026): PAYG listed at $8/GB, shown at $4.00/GB with coupon RESIGB50; committed rows at $499 / 141 GB, $999 / 332 GB, $1,999 / 798 GB (list/offer per-GB rates on that page). KYC before Residential or Mobile; Web Unlocker described as not requiring that path.

Oxylabs: one shared credit subscription. Welcome $5; Starter $15/month, Basic $100, Flexible $500, Enterprise from $2,500. Residential $6/GB on the lower columns, then $5, $4, and $2.5/GB as plans rise. Unused credits expire at cycle end except on upgrade. Pairwise: Bright Data vs Oxylabs.

Crawl4AI — self-host

Apache-2.0 library; you run browsers and proxies. Cloud (soft launch) starts at $10/month for 10,000 credits. Details: Firecrawl vs Crawl4AI.

When the leave path is still a scrape API

Switching ScraperAPI → ZenRows or ScrapingBee stays inside HTML collection. The question is which meter you can explain. ScraperAPI bills Google and Bing at 25 credits and includes JS; ZenRows bills JS at 5 and protected mode at 25, with no published “Google = 25” rule on the page we fetched. A JS-heavy but non-Google mix can be cheaper on ScraperAPI’s included rendering (Hobby $49 / 100,000) or on ZenRows Build B1 ($19 / 45,000) depending on how many URLs escalate to protected. A Google-heavy mix is priced explicitly on ScraperAPI and only implicitly (via whatever mode those result pages need) on ZenRows. ScrapingBee Hobby ($19 / 75,000, JS = 5, premium 10 or 25) sits closer to ZenRows on rendering weights and closer to ScraperAPI on “thin hosted API.” Pick the meter that matches how you already classify URLs — hostname versus render mode — rather than the smaller sticker.

5. Pitfalls when you switch

  • Leaving because Hobby ran out on Google traffic — that is a Startup conversation, not proof you needed a new category.
  • Moving to Firecrawl for raw HTML, or to a proxy network because you wanted more scrape credits.
  • Comparing $19 / $49 stickers as if the credits were the same unit.
  • Assuming another vendor treats failed requests or 404s the way ScraperAPI or ZenRows does. Read the billing page you are moving to.
  • Treating Bright Data’s promotional $4/GB as the permanent list price (the page still prints $8/GB PAYG and names RESIGB50).

7. FAQ

What is the best ScraperAPI alternative?

There is not one. Match the job in the matrix above.

Is Firecrawl cheaper?

Not as a rule. Firecrawl Hobby is $19 for 5,000 credits; ScraperAPI Hobby is $49 for 100,000 credits, with Google at 25×. See the pairwise page.

Should I leave if Google emptied Hobby?

Usually no — look at Startup. Leave if you never wanted a scrape API.

Do you earn a commission on these alternatives?

Firecrawl links may earn a commission. Other tools have hidden placeholders only, not live buttons.
